Thrive over the holidays

As the year draws to a close and the new one rapidly approaches, it's an ideal time to follow these 5 steps to prepare for another action packed year ahead!

Rest

Even the fittest athletes in the world need to rest regularly to re-energise. So what have you got planned over the holiday season to detach from the day to day and actually switch off for a week or two (Assuming it's not your busiest time of the year of course!)? Take some time out to rest this Christmas.

Reflect

A year goes by so quickly. Can you remember all the things that happened this year? If not, here are a few questions to help you reflect on the year just gone so that you can prepare yourself for the year ahead.

  • What are some of the great things that happened this year? Personally? In your business? In your career?
  • What were some of the tough times this year?
  • What worked for you this year?
  • What didn't work for you?
  • What did you achieve this year?
  • What changed this year?
  • What would you repeat from this year?
  • What would you change?

Reflect on these questions and start making a list of things you want to focus on next year!

Review

Review your plans for the year ahead and your numbers. Make sure you have a clear picture of what you want to achieve by 30 June and then by the end of 2014. If you don't have a plan written down then do it during the quiet period over the holidays. It's an ideal time to do some forward thinking to get you moving when you return in January. For assistance in putting a plan together, contact us and we'll help you get focused in the right direction.

Your numbers will give you a good indication on your performance and any gaps that might need to be filled. Again we're here to help you put actions in place to support you in achieving your goals for the year ahead.

Recharge

Recharging is ramping up the energy and building momentum so that you can hit the ground running at the beginning of the new year. So many people do the opposite. By the time they get going again in the new year, almost two months have passed.

Get excited and get your focus right. What are you aiming to achieve? What resources do you have at your disposal? What resources do you need to find? Who do you need to help you with your goals for the year? What will success look and feel like when you achieve your goals? These are just some of the questions we would highly recommend you ponder over the coming days.

The aim is to hit the ground running on 1st January with 365 days of opportunity ahead!

Reset or Resume!

Finally, if the year has been an ordinary one for you so far, it's a good time to reset and restart. If it's been reasonable or great, then resume with enthusiasm the moment you get back from your break!

To survive the holidays and make the most of it, remember that just because the world around us slows down, it doesn't mean we have to. Look for the opportunities to make tweaks and enhancements to your business if you have one or your personal situation if you don't. It'll pay off in a big way!

Merry Christmas!
